Erika Kirk, wife of the late Turning Point USA CEO Charlie Kirk, shared the stage with Vice President JD Vance at the University of Mississippi last Wednesday to the cheering crowd of over 10,000 people, which went viral. It was Erika's first public appearance after Charlie's assassination.

As Vance and Erika hugged each other, the vice president, JD Vance, whispered, according to Hickling, a professional lip reader, "I'm proud of you."
Erika, fighting off tears, replied softly, "It's not going to bring him back." Many viewers who are active on social media commented immediately, describing it as a ‘heart-wrenching moment.’
It came weeks after Charlie Kirk’s assassination in a shocking on-stage shooting at Utah Valley University on September 10 that killed the 31-year-old conservative activist and close Trump ally.

Erika, 36, who has now taken over as CEO of Turning Point USA, almost didn't go to the Mississippi event at all. The lip reader noted Erika was clearly nervous beforehand, reportedly telling her assistant, "I can't do this. I don't want to do it."
As she prepared to speak, the lights dimmed, and the audience heard a recorded voice introduction from her late husband, Charlie.
This introduction visibly brought Erika to tears. Wiping them away, she bravely addressed the crowd, telling them, "You guys have no idea how helpful it is to have all of you in my life. You make me feel even more connected to my late husband, Charlie Kirk."
While photos of the hug led to some social media speculation about their closeness, Erika later explained the embrace as one of "mutual respect and shared mission."
Vice President Vance praised Charlie Kirk and said Charlie is "the most effective person in politics that I have ever seen." The brief, poignant exchange which only became clear via a lip reader since then has been viewed as a powerful symbol of grief, strength, and solidarity between two individuals bonded by loss and purpose.
