The King Charles III, whose personal fortune has shot to £640 million, as per the Sunday Times Rich List with the eye-catching dramatic increase places him above his late mother and reignites discussions regarding the financial privileges of the monarchy in modern-day Britain.
Charles III born on November 14, 1948 and he is the firstborn of Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He was the longest-serving heir apparent in British history before he became king and the coronation was on May 6, 2023, which was the first British coronation in 70 years. In 2024, Charles revealed that he was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer but still continued performing royal duties.
King Charles III was Charles Philip Arthur George over the years, he has held numerous titles including Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Carrick and Baron Renfrew, as well as Lord of the Isles and Great Steward of Scotland. Apart from personal assets, Charles also controls the Duchy of Lancaster, which is a private estate that generates annual revenues of £27 million while valued to be more than £654 million, including urban property and extensive lands in Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Apart from these, there are other members of the Royal Family who are worth quite a bit. Prince William now Duke of Cornwall, possesses an estimated net worth of $134 million, thanks greatly to the revenue provided by the Duchy of Cornwall, a sprawling estate of more than 52,000 hectares.
Even Prince Harry, who stepped back from duties pertaining to the royal crown, has an estimated worth of almost $60 million with the funds coming from media deals signed with Netflix and Spotify, among others. He was married to Meghan Markle, and she has her own independent financial fortune. Besides, public funds are set to increase through the Sovereign Grant, which will maintain royal functions and run official properties, projected to reach $170 million by 2026-2027 currently, it is £86 million ($115 million) annually.
As Great Britain relishes a novel era in King Charles III's reign, the modern picture of monarchy is not by institutional tradition but great wealth, posing significant questions about legacy, privilege, and public responsibility.
