After a one-week, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be back on ABC this Tuesday since he made comments about the tragic assassination of the conservative figure Charlie Kirk not long ago, Kimmel’s comments sparked an uproar across the country raising issues about his judgment.

The suspension of the production was not solely a programming decision but became a national flashpoint issue with public outrage and regulatory pressure rising after Kimmel’s controversial monologue.

What Disney Weighs in on the Matter?

By a statement issued on Monday, The Walt Disney Company, which owns ABC, elucidated the reasons behind the halting of the show “We chose to suspend production to avoid further inflaming a sensitive situation during an emotionally charged time in our country,” part of the company’s statement read.

The wording of the statement underlined the hypersensitivity in deciding that some of the utterances were “ill-timed and therefore inappropriate” in view of the emotionally heightened climate.

Disney also confirmed that it has had thoughtful conversations with Kimmel in the days since his inappropriate comments and they finally decided to bring the show back to the air.

What are the Comments that Ignited the Storm?

The backlash followed Kimmel’s remarks in his opening monologue when he took shots at supporters of the former President, Donald Trump describing them as the MAGA gang. The responses had flowed around the death of Charlie Kirk, Kimmel claimed the right-wing folks has politicized a tragedy for gain, accusing them that they were “desperately trying to paint the murderer as anything other than one of their own.”

The response was immediate and fierce with FCC Chairman Brendan Carr issued a sharp warning, suggesting that regulatory action would be on the table if networks failed to address such content. “These companies can act responsibly, or the FCC will be forced to step in,” Carr said during an appearance on The Benny Show.

How Broadcast Backlash & Industry Pressure?

By mid-week, several broadcast groups such as Nexstar and Sinclair had taken Jimmy Kimmel Live! off their local ABC affiliates but ABC rushed to withdraw the show from all its channels an unprecedented move called upon by the pressure from local affiliates and media regulators raising a potential nationwide collapse in distribution.

Now, with a return on the cards and memoirs apparently in order, ABC seems ready to move forward whether the audience welcomes the show back or continues to hold it accountable remains to be seen.
