He was rushed to the hospital then into an induced coma to stabilize his condition but after weeks he succumbed to his injuries on October 19. His death came as a great shock to his family, friends and fans. A GoFundMe campaign had been set up for medical expenses, but even with the funds raised, Montero couldn't make it.
Both the New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners have shared their sympathies, noting Montero's physical gifts but also his good heart and dedication to family. He leaves behind a legacy of unreached potential in his two children and female audiences, wondering what could have been.
