A lawyer from Indiana who happens to share the exact same name as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has taken the tech giant to court. The attorney says Facebook’s automated systems keep flagging his accounts as fake, assuming he is impersonating the billionaire. As a result, his personal and professional profiles have been repeatedly suspended, creating major hurdles for his law practice. Frustrated after years of dealing with the problem, the lawyer has now filed a lawsuit against the company’s chief executive. “It’s not funny,” the lawyer told local outlet 13WTHR. “Not when they take my money. This really pissed me off.”

Why He Chose to Sue

The attorney emphasized that suing Meta’s CEO wasn’t his first option. He said he had repeatedly contacted Facebook each time his account was deactivated. In response, the company had even apologized through email. But despite those apologies, the issue kept coming back.

“I did everything they asked me to do, like I always do. They ask you to appeal if you think your suspension is not proper. I filed the proper appeals with them the very next day and I’ve heard nothing from them and it’s been four months. The last time they did it, it was over six months before they turned my account back on,” Zuckerberg explained.

He questioned Meta’s efficiency, saying: “For somebody who purports to be one of the leading tech companies in the world, and they can’t stop doing this? And they can’t seem to get their appeal process to work? I think they have a problem.”

Damages and Claims in the Lawsuit

Lawyer Mark Zuckerberg emphasized that the repeated account suspensions were more than just an inconvenience, they directly impacted his career and financial stability. As a bankruptcy attorney, much of his communication with potential and existing clients happens online. Each time his account was banned, he was unable to respond to queries, manage his business page, or maintain his professional outreach, which, according to him, severely disrupted his practice.

He further pointed out that he had invested thousands of dollars in Facebook advertisements over the years to promote his legal services. These ads often became ineffective when his account was shut down, leading to wasted money and missed opportunities for client acquisition.

In his lawsuit, Zuckerberg has demanded that Meta permanently restore his account so that he can use the platform without fear of sudden suspension. Additionally, he is seeking reimbursement for his lost ad spend, coverage of his attorney fees, and compensation for the broader financial and professional damages he claims to have suffered.

Despite acknowledging Meta’s vast resources and legal power, the lawyer remains determined. He told reporters that he genuinely believes he has a strong case, arguing that no individual should be penalized simply for sharing a name with a public figure.
