The social media buzz about the viral ‘kiss cam’ moment between Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot during a Coldplay show in Boston has taken over for days. Amul has now joined the mix with one of its trademark topical twists, generating both positive and negative online responses.

The milk brand posted its ad on X, with the ubiquitous Amul Girl and the lines: “Amul Topical: Couple caught on ‘kiss cam’ at Coldplay concert!”

‘Hum Tum Ek Camera Mein Bandh Ho!’

Amul’s cartoon cleverly recreates the going-viral moment when Byron, who is the then-Astronomer CEO, was spotted cozying up with Kristin Cabot, the head of HR at the company. The cartoon depicts a cartoonized version of the scene, with Amul Girl being a concert spectator, witnessing the moment happening on a huge screen with her eyes wide open in disbelief.

The piece is accompanied by the caption: “Hum Tum ek camera may band ho!” A cheeky reverse of the classic lyric “Hum Tum Ek Kamre May Band Ho” from the 1973 Bollywood movie Bobby.

Another clever caption on the image says: “Only scoops, no oops.”

Social Media Reacts With Mixed Emotions

The advertisement attracted both amusement and denunciation. Although several enjoyed Amul’s timely and irreverent comment, others felt uneasy in making use of the Amul Girl in a scene loosely connected with suspected infidelity.

Someone said, “Amul girl ahead of her time – please wait for your adulthood, dear.”

Another stated, “Didn’t expect Amul to join this Coldplay couple meme bandwagon.”

A third person questioned motivation: “What’s this? Why this? Not expected from the Amul creative team.”

A fourth simply responded with, “Oh no, please don’t!”

Astronomer CEO Resigns

The scandal is based on the viral video of Byron and Cabot exchanging a intimate moment on the kiss cam at the concert. The video caused mass speculation regarding an alleged affair, particularly because both are reportedly married to someone else.

After the episode, Byron resigned as CEO of Astronomer. But no official word has been heard on Kristin Cabot’s status at the firm.

Byron’s wife, Megan Kerrigan, has since deleted her married name from Facebook, according to reports. Meanwhile, Andrew Cabot, CEO of Privateer Rum and Kristin Cabot’s husband, has made no public comment.
