Prince Harry showed off his fun side when comedian Hasan Minhaj asked him to try an American accent on his podcast Doesn’t Know. The Duke of Sussex appeared on the episode released on Wednesday, October 29, and gave fans a glimpse of his humour while trying to sound American.
Hasan Minhaj Tests Prince Harry’s American Accent
During the podcast, Minhaj surprised the British royal with a playful challenge. He asked, “Can you do an American accent?” Harry laughed and replied, “Which part of America?” Hasan quickly said, “Anywhere,” and handed him a line to repeat.
He told Harry, “This is the most American sentence I could think of: ‘I ordered breadsticks with ranch dressing at Applebee’s.’” Harry tried to start, but couldn’t help laughing. He asked Minhaj to repeat the line, and then copied him in the same style.
At one point, Harry joked, “I’m just sitting here sweating,” but still pulled it off confidently. That was decent,” Hasan said, appreciating his effort.
Hasan then gave him another line: “Hey, do you like my Cybertruck?” After Harry repeated it, Hasan turned to his crew and warned, “You guys out there, you cannot laugh like this. We’re having a real thing.”
Harry asked, “Is it encouraging or is it mocking me? I’m not sure,” before switching back to his American drawl, saying, “Come on, y’all.” Hasan loved it and told the Duke that his “y’all” sounded perfect. When asked to say “yee-haw,” Harry didn’t hesitate and delivered a cheerful, “Yee-haw!”
Prince Harry on Life in America
The episode wasn’t all jokes. The two also talked about the royal couple’s life in the United States. Harry and Meghan Markle live in California with their two children. They stepped down as senior royals in 2020 and moved to the US for a quieter life.
When Minhaj asked what the “most American thing” he does is, Harry said, “Surfing. Or is that American, or is that Californian?” The Duke’s answer reflected how he has adapted to life on the West Coast, enjoying the laid-back lifestyle of California.
Conversation Turns Serious
Besides the fun chat, the pair discussed serious issues too. They spoke about the harmful effects of social media on children and families. Harry shared insights about his work with The Parents’ Network, an initiative that supports families affected by online harm.
The Duke said his goal is to make social media safer for the next generation. The conversation shifted smoothly from light humour to a meaningful discussion on digital responsibility.
A Royal with a Sense of Humour
Harry’s appearance on Hasan Minhaj’s podcast showed a different side of him — relaxed, funny, and open.
From his American accent attempt to his genuine talk about parenting and social issues, the Duke proved he can connect with audiences on both personal and global topics.
