Candace Owens put her show on hold after publicly declaring that French President Emmanuel Macron had tried to kill her. She also claimed the White House and counterterrorism officials had received her report.

Those statements were made on X. No U.S. agency has corroborated her story to date. At this stage, the claims stand solely as Owens’ assertions.

What is the connection Candace Owens draws to Charlie Kirk

Owens also linked her allegations to the recent death of the political activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed last September during an event in Utah.

She has repeatedly suggested that foreign actors might have played a role and investigators have not supported such suggestions. No official report has linked Kirk’s death to the Macrons or to any foreign plot. Her statements remain unverified.

How is the Wider Political Climate

Owens’s allegations came during an already tense moment in U.S.-France relations and a period of high hostility on social media. Her comments went viral, furthering a narrative that mixed personal grievance with geopolitical drama.

In a world where accusations travel quicker than evidence, her posts fomented new debate about influence, disinformation and personal responsibility.

What is the Context of Defamation Lawsuit

The controversy also comes as Owens faces a defamation lawsuit from Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron over her repeated claims about the French First Lady’s identity. The Macrons say those claims are baseless and knowingly false.

In their legal filing, they argue the accusations caused harm to their family and reputation. Owens has denied wrongdoing and framing her work as investigative commentary.

“These claims are demonstrably false, and Owens knew they were false when she published them,” states the lawsuit. “Yet, she published them anyway. And the reason is clear: it is not the pursuit of truth, but the pursuit of fame.”

What Has Been Verified

As it is, none of the new claims by Owens has been confirmed. No statement to validate Owens’s claims has come out from US officials regarding assassination plots or foreign involvement in Kirk’s death.

In a statement, Macrons expressed their resolve to initiate the defamation lawsuit after Owens persisted in disseminating her comments despite multiple requests from the couple’s attorneys for retractions.

“Ms. Owens campaign of defamation was plainly designed to harass and cause pain to us and our families and to garner attention and notoriety,” the lawyers stated. “We gave her every opportunity to back away from these claims, but she refused. It is our earnest hope that this lawsuit will set the record straight and end this campaign of defamation once and for all.”

The only verified fact so far is that her correspondence was received; this is routine and does not signal validation.

Why Fact-Checking Matters

Owens tweets serve to illustrate just how long ahead of evidence coming to light high-profile voices can frame a narrative. Whether these are born of real fear, political theatre or an ongoing legal battle, the case serves to illustrate a core journalistic rule as extraordinary allegations demand verifiable proof. Until such proof emerges, her statements are allegations, not established fact.
