Ex-FBI Chief James Comey Pleads Not Guilty: ‘I’m Not Afraid’ in Trump-Backed Case

James Comey is the former FBI director, recently appeared in federal court sitting at Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday (October 8) where he pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. The indictment, interpreted by many as political charges, result from Comey’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2020. In this new development, Comey and former President Donald Trump lock horns again as the latter had pressured the Department of Justice to prosecute Comey.

Who is James Comey?

James Brien Comey is an eminent American lawyer who served as the seventh director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the time that he was in charge from 2013 to 2017 until President Trump terminated him prior to the FBI, he had made quite a name for himself in federal law enforcement and worked on some high-profile prosecutions such as the Gambino crime family. He has quite a span of work experience between government and private legal practice and is thus an authoritative figure in American law and politics.

James Comey’s Education

James Comey’s academic background gave him the foundation that propelled him into a career in law and service to country and people. His first degree was a Bachelor of Science from the College of William & Mary where he met his intended wife from there, he attended the University of Chicago Law School to obtain a Juris Doctor degree. It is among the very top-tier legal institutions in the country and he launched an illustrious career in law enforcement as well as justice.

Who is James Comey

Patrice Failor is Comey’s wife, with whom he has shared his life since college days at the College of William and Mary. The couple married in 1987 and has six children although they must sadly remember Collin, who died as an infant. The Comey family has also fostered children, which exemplifies the close bonds and values that promote family life.

What’s the Allegation Against Comey?

The charges against Comey essentially relate to his alleged falsity at Senate testimony held on September 30, 2020 and he firmly denies the indictment. The attorney representing him says the charges were politically motivated due to President Trump’s antagonism.

There are moves underway to dismiss the entire case, alleging prosecutorial misconduct and raising points around the legitimacy of the appointed US attorney in charge of the indictment. The matter continues as it plays out through the course of the legal system.
