Tesla CEO Elon Musk has cancelled his Netflix subscription. He did this after Netflix director Hamish Steele mocked the killing of Charlie Kirk. Steele is the creator of DeadEndia and Netflix’s Dead End: Paranormal Park. Last month, he shared a post on Bluesky targeting Kirk.
In the post, Steele called Charlie Kirk a “nazi.” Charlie Kirk, a right-wing political activist, was shot and killed in public on September 10. His funeral drew thousands, including Elon Musk and former US President Donald Trump.
Public Criticism and Response
On Wednesday, Musk responded to a post criticising Netflix for employing Hamish Steele. The post came from former Department of Energy nuclear scientist Matt Van Swol. Van Swol accused Netflix of promoting pro-trans content. He said he cancelled his subscription because Netflix hosted content from a director who celebrated Kirk’s murder.
Van Swol wrote: “Just cancelled my Netflix subscription. If you employ someone who celebrated the murder of Charlie Kirk and makes content that pushes pro-trans content on my kids…you will NEVER get a dime of my money.”

Musk replied, “Same,” confirming that he had also cancelled his Netflix subscription.
Backlash Against Hamish Steele
Backlash against Steele grew after a clip from his show Dead End: Paranormal Park circulated on X, the social media platform owned by Musk. The animated show, aimed at children, was accused of promoting anti-transphobic ideas.

After the clip gained attention, screenshots of Steele’s old post began circulating online. In addition to cancelling his Netflix subscription, Musk called Steele a “groomer.”
Musk’s Views on Transgender Rights
Musk has previously expressed criticism of transgender rights and care. His views are linked to the transition of his daughter. Musk described her as being influenced by what he calls a “woke mind virus.”
