The long-standing feud between U.S President Donald Trump and NBC’s late-night show presenter Seth Meyers has been ignited anew after Meyers ridiculed one of the recent speeches of Trump.

During his show Late Night with Seth Meyers, the comedian ran a parody segment titled “Seth Translates Trump to English”, mocking Trump’s speech to U.S. Navy troops stationed near Japan. The exchange escalated quickly when Trump attacked back on his social media platform Truth Social and dubbed Meyers with the least talented person to ever perform live on television.

What is the Spark Behind Trump’s Outburst

Meyers satirical take followed critical comments by Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer about Trump’s East Asia visit. The Late Night host joked that Trump loses his cool if anyone says something less than glowing and added that the former president thinks criticism equals treason.

The bit was typical of Meyers sharp humor, but it struck a nerve. Trump, who rarely ignores such jabs, quickly responded online, calling Meyers a deranged lunatic and questioned why NBC continued to employ him.

Trump’s Counterattack on Truth Social

In a Saturday post, Trump went all in “Seth Meyers of NBC may be the least talented person to perform live in the history of television,” he wrote. He said NBC was wasting its resources on a guy with no ratings and seemed to suggest that being 100% anti-Trump might even be illegal.

The tone echoed Trump’s frequent criticism of mainstream media outlets NBC and its parent company, Comcast which he has repeatedly accused of political bias.

A History of Verbal Crossfire

This clash isn’t new. The feud dates back to 2011, when Meyers roasted Trump at the White House Correspondents Dinner with a moment many believe fueled Trump’s grudge against late-night comedy.

Over the years, Trump has taken to social media to deride Meyers, branding him Marble Mouth Meyers and a slot filler for the scum that runs Comcast. Earlier this year, he also attacked NBC for renewing Meyers’s contract through 2028, calling the host an insecure child.

Meyers Silence & Satire

While Meyers hasn’t responded, at least not yet, to Trump’s latest rant, he did re-share the parody clip that set it off perhaps his own quiet way of keeping the fight going. For Meyers, the feud seems to be material for comedy for Trump, it’s another chance to take aim at what he views as an unfair media landscape. The exchange underscores the enduring tension between politics and entertainment in America’s cultural arena.
