During one White House holiday party, former President Donald Trump good-naturedly complained about the over-the-top Christmas display his wife Melania Trump had set up.
He joked that taking out a couple of trees would have made room to accommodate more Republicans attending the party. He said the suggestion was immediately shot down by Melania, who refused to budge a single decoration. Of course, Trump eventually complimented her, citing praise she got for putting together nice seasonal displays.
Melania Trump's Christmas decor has always been subject to opinionated feedback and this year is no exception. For the sixth year in a row with designer Herve Pierre, she announced a theme called Home is where the heart is.
The design melds nostalgia with spectacle butterfly motifs, intricate LEGO portraits of past and present presidents and an assortment of trees, garlands, and handcrafted ornaments. To many, it creates a visually rich, imaginative feel to others, there are too many overwhelming details.

In addition to the formal decoration, Melania has also added a new set of ornaments that became a debating topic on social media. Her centerpiece this year is the American Star ornament, which is an eight-pointed brass design that costs ninety dollars.
This was part of a six-piece ornament collection designed in relation to the United States' 250th anniversary. Each piece encompasses patriotic influences and her engraved signature, continuing to merge White House traditions with personal branding.
This year's layout boasts an impressive list of decorations: dozens of Christmas trees, bright red bows, tens of thousands of feet of ribbon and a heavy gingerbread replica of the White House.

However, by far the most talked-about room is the Fostering the Future Red Room, made up of over ten thousand blue butterflies. This unusual quantity of butterflies has turned it into one of the most photographed rooms this season.
Unlike in previous years when either stark white or bright red themes became internet sensations because of their intensity, the 2025 presentation has been described as more traditional. Some observers say Melania's approach seems more restrained this time, perhaps shaped by the criticism she faced during earlier Christmas seasons.
The shift suggests an attempt to balance creativity with familiarity, offering a holiday presentation that invites attention but avoids the viral controversies of the past.
