US authorities have arrested the suspect accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Officials confirmed the arrest on Friday, ending a tense three-day manhunt.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced the arrest at a press briefing. He said, “We got him.”
The suspect is Tyler Robinson, 22, who was captured after a family member helped police. The governor confirmed Robinson acted alone, but added that the investigation is still ongoing.
Trump Confirms Arrest
The first confirmation of the arrest came from US President Donald Trump during an interview with Fox News. He said, “With a high degree of certainty, we have him.”
Trump praised Kirk as a loyal ally and a strong voice for young Americans.
Rifle Found Near Scene
Authorities revealed that a high-powered bolt-action rifle was discovered in a wooded area along Robinson’s escape path. Officials believe it was the weapon used in the shooting.
Kirk was killed by a single shot during a debate event hosted by Turning Point USA, the conservative group he co-founded.
Charlie Kirk Remembered
Governor Cox described the murder as a “political assassination.”
President Trump also paid tribute to his close ally, saying, “He wanted to help young people, and he didn’t deserve this. He was really a good person.”
National Mourning
The assassination has drawn bipartisan condemnation across the United States. In honor of Kirk, Trump ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff. He also issued a presidential proclamation to mark the tragedy.
The arrest of Robinson has brought some relief, but questions remain about his motives and planning. Authorities continue to investigate the case.
