Cambodian PM Hun Manet nominated United States President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize on Sunday, October 26. Hun said Trump deserves the prize for his role in brokering the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords between Cambodia and Thailand.

The nomination was announced at the signing ceremony for the ceasefire, where Hun praised Trump’s efforts in ending years of border tension between the two countries.

“Recognising your unwavering dedication and resolute efforts to promote peace, not only between Cambodia and Thailand but also among other nations, and reflecting the gratitude of the Cambodian people, I have nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize,” Hun said. “Peace saves lives, and this is the heartfelt wish of our people,” he added.

Trump Co-Signs Cambodia-Thailand Ceasefire

During the first stop of his Asia tour on Sunday, Trump co-signed a truce between Thailand and Cambodia. The ceasefire comes after five days of clashes along the jungle-covered border earlier this summer. The clashes erupted over a territorial dispute, killing more than 40 people and forcing 300,000 residents to flee their homes.

The signing ceremony marked a significant step toward lasting peace in the region. Both countries welcomed the agreement, citing Trump’s diplomatic efforts as key to resolving the conflict.

Trump Receives Multiple Nobel Nominations

Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by several world leaders. However, he was not awarded the prize this year. Instead, the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize went to Venezuela Opposition Leader María Corina Machado.

Other leaders who nominated Trump include:

  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
  • Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan
  • Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev
  • Malta’s Foreign Minister Ian Borg
  • Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

These nominations recognize Trump’s diplomatic work in multiple international conflicts.

Regional Stability and Global Recognition

The nomination highlights the role of international diplomacy in regional stability. Experts say the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire is a model for conflict resolution in other territorial disputes around the world.

Trump’s involvement underscores how high-profile global leaders can influence peaceful resolutions, even in long-standing conflicts. Analysts also note that nominations from multiple countries demonstrate his broad recognition on the world stage, regardless of whether he receives the award.

Diplomatic Influence Beyond Borders

Trump’s nomination shows that leaders may reward external actors who mediate regional conflicts. The Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire signals a shift toward multinational engagement in peace processes, where countries rely on influential figures outside their borders to broker agreements.

For Cambodia and Thailand, the truce not only stops immediate violence but also opens the door for economic recovery and social rebuilding in the border areas affected by the summer clashes.
