Quornelius Radford, a 28-year-old U.S. Army sergeant, has been identified as the suspect behind the Wednesday morning shooting at Fort Stewart, a major military base located approximately 40 miles southwest of Savannah. The incident left five soldiers injured, two of whom remain in critical care.

What Happened at Fort Stewart?

The shooting occurred at 10:56 a.m. in the area designated for the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (2nd ABCT). Radford was apprehended less than an hour later, at 11:35 a.m.

All five injured soldiers received initial treatment on base before being transported to Winn Army Community Hospital. Two of them were subsequently transferred to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah—a Level 1 trauma facility—for advanced care.

Who Is Quornelius Radford?

  • Radford is an active-duty U.S. Army sergeant.

  • According to CNN, he was previously arrested in May for driving under the influence during a traffic stop.

Official Response and Investigation

Al Williams, a Georgia State Representative, confirmed that two of the wounded soldiers were moved to Savannah for more intensive treatment.
“We don’t know the seriousness of their injuries,” Williams told CNN. “But when you’re sent to Memorial Hospital in Savannah, that’s a Level 1 trauma center. That tells us something.”

White House Monitoring the Situation

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Donald Trump has been briefed.
“The President has been briefed on the shooting at Fort Stewart in Georgia. The White House is monitoring the situation,” she said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Military authorities and local law enforcement have launched a full investigation into the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting. No further details have been released at this time.
