After the US President Donald Trump met the Russian President Vladimir Putin at a high-stakes Alaska summit, the global attention has turned to the tariff situation between India and US .

Although the meeting did not produce any agreement on ending the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, it’s outcome can reveal if India will face steep US tariffs on imports, including Russian oil.

In the last few weeks, the relationship between the US and India has been facing strains after US President Donald Trump slammed a 50% tariff rate on India. Trump also accused India of supporting Russia’s warfare by purchasing Russian crude oil.

Here are some key takeaways from the highest take Alaska summit between two global leaders:

1. Donald Trump admitted that no deal has been finalized with Putin on the matter of ending the war with Ukraine, but stressed that progress has been made. He assured to consult with Ukrainian President Zelensky and NATO leaders. Overall Trump called the major productive but asserted that there are gaps and said, “there is no deal until there is a deal. ”

 2. After the summit, Trump to Fox News' Sean Hannity that he won’t impose new tariffs on China for buying Russian crude oil. However, he did not mention India, on which he has slapped 50% tariffs. He also mentioned that the tariffs could return in the coming weeks, but are not needed right now.

 3. The Russian president praised Donald Trump for the 'friendly' talks and understanding Russia’s national interests. Trump avoided publicly saying anything about Moscow‘s attack on Ukrainian civilians.

 4. The meeting was termed as productive by both the leaders, however, no final results has been announced. The joint press conference led by the two  presidents lasted 15 minutes and took diplomatic routine comments. No agreements or new details were shared in the press conference, indicating that the meeting offer little progress.
