Donald Trump took a grave error during a Monday press conference, provoking massive condemnation on social media. The President of the United States, with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth by his side, was discussing homelessness and increased crimes in Washington, DC, when he quoted his upcoming, high-profile summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Shift in Topic to Putin Meeting

He, nonetheless, immediately deviated from the issue to speak about his upcoming meeting with Putin, which will be this Friday in Alaska.

“It’s embarrassing for me to be up here,” the President told reporters. “I’m going to see Putin. I’m going to Russia on Friday.”

Social Media Reactions

Most individuals could not avoid teasing the US President over his enormous faux pas following the words that triggered the social media meltdown.

Reacting to Trump’s remarks, one X user wrote: “The so-called president of the United States thinks that Alaska is in Russia. What an ongoing embarrassment!”

“Is Trump stupider than Sarah Palin? Da. Is Alaska part of Russia? Nyet,” another reacted.

“Completely effing gone. Can you imagine a Fortune 500 chairman talking like this and not being relieved before he fell off the podium?” a third user said.

“This is what dementia looks like..” one more commented.

Alaska’s History

Alaska, which had once been part of Imperial Russia, was sold to the United States on 30 March 1867 for the glorious sum of US$7.2 million.

Since Trump plans to attempt to persuade Putin to sign a peace deal, he signaled that Ukraine would need to surrender some of its territory.

Ukraine’s Response

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky quickly and categorically dismissed a surrender of land in a post to his X social media platform.

“Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier. Ukraine is ready for real solutions that can bring peace. Any decisions that are against us, any decisions that are without Ukraine, are simultaneously decisions against peace,” he stated.
