US Vice President JD Vance has pushed back against growing concerns that artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to widespread job losses. Speaking at the AI Action Summit in Paris, Vance said, “If the robots were coming to take all of our jobs, you would see it already.”
He pointed out that if an AI takeover of the workforce was truly happening, signs of it would already be obvious in today’s economy. His comments came in support of the Trump administration’s pro-worker AI policy, which aims to focus on how AI can benefit people rather than replace them.
AI Will Add to Human Work, Not Erase It
According to Business Insider, Vance dismissed the “doomsday narratives” coming from some tech leaders who warn that AI could make millions of workers redundant. He said, “Too many leaders in the AI industry, when they talk about this fear of replacing workers, miss the point.”
Instead, he stressed that AI would serve as a tool to enhance human productivity. Vance believes AI will help people work better and smarter, leading to more wealth and freedom, not unemployment. In his words, “AI, we believe, is going to make us more productive, more prosperous, and more free.”
Job Evolution, Not Job Destruction
Rather than fearing job destruction, Vance anticipates a phase of job evolution. He said that AI will change the way people work by helping them perform tasks more efficiently and by opening new job opportunities that didn’t exist before. As industries adopt AI, the demand for new skills and roles will grow.
