Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 2 (ANI): Amid mounting suppression and a sweeping security crackdown against the citizens of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), the National Anti-Terrorism Front India staged a fierce protest outside the United Nations office on Wednesday.
The demonstrators demanded immediate global intervention to address escalating humanitarian crises, reported killings, and systemic rights abuses in the region.
Speaking to the media during the demonstration, National Anti-Terrorism Front India Chairman Vishal Chopra delivered a scathing critique of the international body’s silence on the ongoing persecution across the Line of Control.
“We have come to protest outside the United Nations today for the sake of Bharat Mata. Issues concerning our brothers and sisters in PoK (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir) are being ignored; no one is speaking up, and the United Nations remains asleep. They must wake from this deep slumber and speak for India,” said Vishal Chopra, Chairman, National Anti-Terrorism Front India.
Chopra emphasised that the suffering in the region transcends religious lines, noting that “Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians alike are being persecuted there.” Before concluding the protest, the organisation submitted a formal memorandum to the UN, asserting that PoJK remains an inseparable part of India and urging the global body to protect the local population.
The public outcry in New Delhi coincides with severe global pushback against Islamabad’s handling of local dissent. Watchdog group Amnesty International strongly condemned Pakistan’s heavy-handed tactics ahead of upcoming regional elections in PoJK.
Amnesty accused Pakistani authorities of deploying violent measures to suppress peaceful political dissent and violate fundamental human rights, unlawfully designating the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) as a “proscribed organisation.”
Amnesty fiercely criticised the ban on JKJAAC, labelling it a disproportionate attack on freedom of association and peaceful political activism. As local tensions simmer ahead of the regional polls, activists and watchdog groups alike continue to pressure the international community to hold Islamabad accountable. (ANI)
