Reality TV personality Larsa Pippen has sparked a heated discussion about beauty treatments after revealing that her puffed-up face was the result of an allergic reaction to a PRP treatment.
Pippen, 51, addressed the buzz on Friday after fans noticed her noticeably swollen appearance. Responding to an Instagram post by Dr. Mai Kaga, she wrote, “Honey, I had PRP and had an allergic reaction, so chill out.”
A PRP treatment, or Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy, is a regenerative medicine procedure that uses a patient’s blood platelets to promote healing and tissue repair. According to experts, PRP can aid in skin rejuvenation, facilitate rapid recovery from injuries, and stimulate hair growth.
This whole process involves drawing a small amount of blood. It is then processed to concentrate the platelets and then injected back into targeted areas. Supporters praise it for using the body’s resources, reducing the risk of adverse reactions.
However, Dr. Kaga, an internist, doubts Pippen’s explanation to Page Six. “Allergic reactions to PRP are extremely rare,” she said. “You simply will not find allergies to your blood cells all that common.”
Kaga claimed her initial post was not directly aimed at Pippen but was intended as a cautionary message. “The post was not about Larsa, but about cautioning the current and future generations about being over-treated and overfilled, unnecessarily, and covering up your natural features that make you uniquely beautiful,” she explained.
She also fired back at Pippen’s comment, saying, “Double board-certified physician here, AKA Honey.” The doctor added, “Second- allergic reactions don’t last 3 seasons on a streaming network.”
Many Bravo fans supported Kaga’s theory. One asked, “So is she constantly reacting to Miami?!?” Another recalled a past denial from Pippen, writing, “This coming from the woman that denied having a bbl Miami’s first season back.”
Others were puzzled by Pippen’s explanation. “Wait…is she trying to say she’s allergic to her platelets?? That came from her blood? Wild choice,” one social media user said.
Pippen has been open about undergoing various procedures. During the Season 4 reunion of “RHOM,” she admitted to having her nose, lips, and breasts done. However, she has consistently denied having a Brazilian butt lift, telling host Andy Cohen, “I work out seven days a week.”
While PRP treatments remain popular for their natural approach, this high-profile debate is highlighting a bigger conversation about cosmetic enhancements — and the fine line between subtle improvements and overdone transformations.
