An Indian-origin couple has been running a restaurant in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom. They recently faced an ordeal, as two families left without paying the hefty bill of Rs. 23,000 (£200). The incident took place on August 30.

The owners of the restaurant, Raman Kumar and Narinder Singh Athwa, took it to the social media platform Facebook to share the incident. They noted that two families arrived after making a booking and ordered a large meal, including curries, sides, and children's dishes. At the time of payment, the two women left with the children. The men who were left behind stated that they had 'no way of paying' and left.

The couple explained that the group promised to settle the bill by Monday but failed to keep their word. In their post, they wrote: “We hate to do this, but it’s our only option at this point. Unfortunately, on Saturday night we had a table of 2 families, who after eating, drinking & enjoying themselves tried 5 different cards… paid £0 off a £200 bill!!”

They further added: “The only issue came at the end when the families scarpered and the 2 men said sorry, we have no way of paying. When I requested ID, they couldn’t produce any either. No cash, nothing.”

The couple said the customers left a name and number with a promise to pay, along with an apology, but no payment has been made.

Highlighting the impact, the owners wrote: “As a local family-run business and an independent, times are REALLY tough… that 200-pound bill would pay staff, or pay our bills, or for stock.”

The post has drawn widespread support online, with many urging them to release CCTV footage or report the matter to the police.
