A heartbreaking crash in Texas has left two dead, according to CCTV footage of a small plane smashing into a tractor-trailer and several utility trailers Sunday afternoon. The tragic accident happened in Tarrant County, close to Hicks Airfield, a private airfield somewhere between Fort Worth Alliance Airport and Fort Worth Meacham Airport. The two fatalities in the crash have not yet been announced. Authorities have also not released how many individuals were on board the plane at the time of the impact, and it is not known whether any persons on the ground surrounding the impact area were injured.
Official authorities confirmed that the crash of the plane was followed by a collision with an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer and its trailers, and the wreckage burst into flames instantly. The crash generated a ferocious fire, and photographs at the scene indicated thick black clouds of smoke reaching high in the air, seen miles away. One onlooker, Lauren Anderson, recalled seeing a "giant black cloud of smoke" that rose about 100 feet into the air before emergency responders had arrived. Another witness in the area said he heard a "loud boom" before a panicked customer ran into a building to call the police.
Emergency crews from the Fort Worth Fire Department and several other agencies quickly responded to the site. The Fire Department confirmed the crash location was near Hicks Airfield, which sits north of Fort Worth in unincorporated Tarrant County.
The Fort Worth Fire Department also informed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Both government agencies should open an official investigation to identify the precise reason for the crash, the flight pattern of the plane, and the circumstances that caused the deadly impact with the truck.
