The Scene of Destruction
Official authorities confirmed that the crash of the plane was followed by a collision with an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer and its trailers, and the wreckage burst into flames instantly. The crash generated a ferocious fire, and photographs at the scene indicated thick black clouds of smoke reaching high in the air, seen miles away. One onlooker, Lauren Anderson, recalled seeing a “giant black cloud of smoke” that rose about 100 feet into the air before emergency responders had arrived. Another witness in the area said he heard a “loud boom” before a panicked customer ran into a building to call the police.
