Toddler Rescued from Fatal Fall at Erupting Kilauea Volcano, Officials Warn Tourists

A toddler narrowly escaped falling into an erupting volcano at a Hawaii national park, prompting officials to issue a new warning for visitors. The boy wandered away from his family and, in a split second, ran straight toward the 400-foot cliff edge of Kilauea.

Mother Grabs Child Just in Time

The park reported that the child was “just a foot or so away from a fatal fall.” Thankfully, his mother screamed and managed to grab him just in time, preventing a tragic accident.

Park Ranger Shares Concern

Jessica Ferracane, a park ranger who witnessed the incident, expressed her concern, stating, “Hopefully sharing the news will prevent future tragedies and near-misses.” She emphasized the importance of visitors remaining vigilant and safe.

Kilauea Eruption Continues

Meanwhile, Kilauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, has been erupting since December 23. The eruption is continuing at a low level, with lava contained within a closed area of the national park.

Visitors Urged to Stay Safe

The incident occurred in a restricted area of the park, where families had gathered to view the lava. According to Ferracane, the fall would have been fatal. Park officials are urging visitors to stay on designated trails, avoid closed areas, and keep children close. “Those who ignore the warnings do so at great risk,” they warned.
