As the storm nears, Floridians are feeling its effects and preparing for the impending hurricane. On Sunday, Fort Myers Beach experienced heavy rain and strong winds, resulting in flooded roads and stranded vehicles that now require towing. Driving through floodwaters is somewhat manageable for covered vehicles like cars, but the conditions are hazardous for motorists, according to The New York Post.
North of Myers Beach, on San Carlos Island, floodwaters have begun seeping into homes through doorsteps. “We’re just sitting here watching at this point. Not much else we can do,” said Justin Bell, who recorded a video of the flooding on Sunday afternoon.
Initially a tropical disturbance, Storm Debby is expected to hit Florida with increasing rain, strong winds, and flooding in the coming days. Safety protocols, including storm warnings and surge watches, have been implemented in anticipation of the storm’s impact.
