South Korea threatens to end the military pact if North Korea violates the airspace

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol would consider suspending the 2018 inter-Korea military pact if North Korea violates the airspace again with North Korean drones. President Yoon made this comment after being briefed on countermeasures to North Korean drones that crossed into South Korea.

He criticized the military for improper handling of the drone incident. He also in part blamed the previous administration for relying on the 2018 military pact which bans hostile activities in the border areas. Yonhap’s new agency reported that President Yoon said, “to build an overwhelming response capability that goes beyond proportional levels.”

President Yoon has urged the military to stand ready to retaliate. He ordered the defense minister to get going with a comprehensive drone unit that can perform multi-purpose missions, including surveillance, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare, and to set-up, up a system to mass produce small drones that are difficult to detect.
