External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Astana, Kazakhstan, during the SCO Summit. They focused on crucial bilateral issues, particularly regarding the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh.

Both ministers agreed on the imperative to maintain peace and tranquillity along the border, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to existing agreements. They discussed strategies to resolve remaining border disputes swiftly and stabilize bilateral relations.

Jaishankar highlighted the importance of complete disengagement in Eastern Ladakh to restore peace. He underscored the significance of mutual respect, sensitivity, and shared interests in fostering India-China relations. To address remaining issues promptly, the leaders agreed to maintain and intensify meetings between diplomatic and military officials.

Additionally, the ministers exchanged perspectives on global affairs, with India expressing support for China’s upcoming presidency of the SCO. The SCO Summit concluded with a commitment to intensify diplomatic and military dialogues through mechanisms like the Working Mechanism on Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC).

This engagement marks a pivotal step towards resolving longstanding border issues and strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
