An Alaska man became an unexpected winner from last week’s high-profile summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage. Mark Warren, a retired fire inspector from Anchorage, received a Ural Gear Up motorcycle with a sidecar from the Russian government. The gift came just a week after a Russian television crew interviewed Warren, and the clip went viral across Russia.
Viral Moment Leads to Unexpected Gift
Warren already owned a Ural motorcycle, purchased from a neighbor and while running errands on his bike, a Russian television crew approached him for an interview. Warren discussed his struggles in obtaining spare parts due to supply-and-demand issues. “It went viral, it went crazy, and I have no idea why, because I’m really just a super-duper normal guy,” he said. The Russian audience found his story compelling, turning him into a viral sensation.

Gift Arrives Ahead of Trump-Putin Summit
On August 13, two days before the summit in Anchorage to discuss the war in Ukraine, Warren received a call from the Russian journalist. They informed him, “They’ve decided to give you a bike.” Initially skeptical, Warren feared it might be a scam. After Trump and Putin departed Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, he received another call confirming that the bike awaited him at the base.
Motorcycle Handover in Anchorage
Warren and his wife visited an Anchorage hotel where six men, presumably Russian, awaited with the olive-green Ural motorcycle, valued at $22,000. “I dropped my jaw. I went, ‘You’ve got to be joking me,’” he recalled. The only request from the Russians was to take his photograph and interview him. Warren allowed reporters and someone from the Russian consulate to ride with him briefly while a cameraman filmed.
Concerns About Acceptance
Despite his excitement, Warren expressed concern about potential implications. He said he did not want “a bunch of haters coming after me that I got a Russian motorcycle” or any negative impact on his family. While signing paperwork to take official ownership of the motorcycle, he noticed it had been manufactured on August 12. “The obvious thing here is that it rolled off the showroom floor and slid into a jet within probably 24 hours,” Warren remarked.
