The crash resulted in the death of 48 people.
The reason behind the Russian Jet crash near the China border that took place on Thursday remains a mystery. The Antonov An-24 plane, operated by Angara Airlines, was suspected to have crashed due to human error. However, sources from Interfax suggested that the adverse weather conditions might have played a role in the crash.
The Russian plane, operated by the Siberian Angara Airlines, was reported to have crashed 15 KM south of Tynda, Russia, in a forest-covered area. Images of the crash show the plane debris scattered in the forest with smoke clouds emerging from the crash site. At the time of the crash, investigators were said to suspect crew error as the reason behind the crash. However, a source from Interfax suggested that the poor weather conditions might have played a role in it.
The crash is reported to have taken the lives of 42 passengers, including five children, and six crew members. According to Reuters, a criminal case has been filed for the suspected violation of air traffic and air transport rules. Reportedly, the plane involved in the crash had passed a recent safety check and was involved in four minor incidents since 2018.
The transport prosecutor’s office has revealed that a second landing was attempted near the Tynda airport before the plane lost communication.
The Antov An-24 was designed in 1957, and this recent crash has led to conversations regarding flight safety and the use of such old planes. The plane is still operational and part of the active fleet in many countries. This crash might lead to airlines questioning flight safety, and may lead to an increased standard of safety for such old planes on longer flights.
