Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his first visit to Nigeria, addressed the Indian diaspora in Abuja, emphasizing the shared values of democracy, diversity, and demographic energy between the two nations. He highlighted the strong partnership that continues to grow.

“Mai Apne Sath Bharat Ki Mitti Ki Mehak Laya Hu”

In his heartfelt speech, PM Modi said, “Mai akela nahi aaya hun, mai apne sath Bharat ki mitti ki mehak lekar aaya hu.” He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received from the Nigerian people, calling it “incredible.”

Strengthening Strategic Ties

PM Modi held discussions with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focusing on strengthening the strategic partnership. He highlighted the immense potential for collaboration in sectors like defence, energy, technology, and health.

India’s Support for Africa

PM Modi recalled India’s pivotal role in making the African Union a permanent member of the G20 during its presidency. “Nigeria witnessed this historic moment as a guest member of G20,” he noted.

Global Leadership and India’s Commitment

PM Modi underlined India’s emergence as a beacon of hope, growth, and democracy on the global stage. He highlighted India’s role as a “Vishwa Bandhu” (global friend) during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing vaccines to countries in need.

Honored with Nigeria’s National Award

Expressing pride in receiving Nigeria’s National Award, PM Modi dedicated it to the citizens of India and the Indian diaspora in Nigeria. “This award is a tribute to our shared progress and partnership,” he said.

A Historic Visit

PM Modi’s visit to Nigeria marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 17 years. The trip, part of his three-nation tour, aims to enhance India’s ties with Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana.
