Train to Balochistan Hit by IED Blast in Sindh; Jaffar Express Targeted Again | Watch

A powerful explosion struck the railway track in Sindh on Tuesday, causing five bogies of the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express to derail. Several passengers were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital. The blast occurred near Somarwah, close to Sultan Kot in Shikarpur District.

Details of the Blast

The explosion happened early Tuesday when the train was passing through Somarwah near Sultan Kot. Railway and police officials say five bogies derailed. The injured were immediately shifted to local hospitals.

Security forces, police, and paramilitary units quickly sealed off the area. They are collecting evidence to find out how the blast was planted and who is behind it.

Initial reports indicate that the railway track suffered significant damage. Repairs will take time, and train services may remain suspended in that stretch.

Repeated Attacks on Jaffar Express

The Jaffar Express, which runs between Quetta and Peshawar, has been hit multiple times this year.

• In September, a blast in the Dasht area of Mastung, Balochistan, derailed six bogies, injuring 12 people.
• On August 10, an improvised explosive device (IED) caused the derailment of six coaches in Mastung, injuring four people.
• On August 4, the pilot engine sent for track clearance came under gunfire near Kolpur, claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).
• In June, in Jacobabad (Sindh), a blast derailed four coaches. No fatalities.
• The worst attack was on March 11, when militants hijacked the train. Twenty-six people, including security personnel, died. Over 350 were held hostage. Security forces later killed 33 attackers.

Authorities believe ethnic Baloch insurgent groups are targeting the train to disrupt connectivity and undermine security. 

Current Situation & Response

Rescue teams are active at the blast site. The injured are being treated at hospitals in Shikarpur. Sindh’s Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah, condemned the attack and ordered a full report. 

Investigators are looking at all possibilities — sabotage, militant groups, or insider help. Railway officials warn that services could stay halted until the tracks are cleared and made safe again.
