Pakistan’s army announced that it has successfully test-fired the Fatah-4 long-range cruise missile. The test aims to strengthen the country’s conventional missile arsenal.

According to a military statement, the Fatah-4 surface-to-surface missile has a range of 750 kilometres (470 miles). It is equipped with advanced avionics and modern navigation systems. Officials did not disclose the test site.

Advanced Features and Precision

The army described the missile as designed to evade enemy air defences. It achieves this through terrain-hugging flight. The missile can strike targets with high precision. The army added that the system would “enhance the reach, lethality and survivability” of Pakistan’s conventional arsenal.

Regular test-firings of indigenous cruise missiles and other weapons are conducted to show Pakistan’s preparedness against potential threats from neighbouring India.

Tensions with India Rise

India and Pakistan, both nuclear-armed states, have fought three wars since gaining independence from British colonial rule in 1947.

Tensions between the two countries recently escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror hubs inside Pakistan that were involved in the incident in Jammu and Kashmir.

Strategic Importance

The Fatah-4 missile is a significant addition to Pakistan’s missile program. Its long range and precision make it capable of hitting key targets while avoiding interception. The development reflects Pakistan’s ongoing focus on modernising its defence capabilities.

Experts say such tests also serve as a strategic message to neighbouring countries about Pakistan’s defence readiness.

The successful test of the Fatah-4 cruise missile highlights Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its conventional military capabilities while maintaining a deterrent against potential threats.
