Pakistan and Egypt have inked an agreement to significantly enhance cooperation between the two countries in crucial sectors, namely economy, commerce, culture, and defense.

This was the result of a very important two-day official visit by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to Islamabad, where he engaged in a series of comprehensive discussions with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar.

Pakistan and Egypt Meet: Reviving Institutional Links

The officials admitted that the relationship had not been active for a long time. Deputy Premier Dar said the Pak-Egypt Joint Ministerial Commission had not met since 2010, while the bilateral political consultations also lapsed during that period.

As a solution to this, the two nations agreed on a structured framework for revival: The political consultations are set to resume in the first quarter of 2026.

Strategic Goal: Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdelatty stressed that this partnership is of high priority when he declared, “We would like to raise our relationship to the strategic level,” and sent word from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi that the “Sky’s the limit for our cooperation.”

Enhancing Trade and Business Relations: A major focus of the talks was revitalizing stagnant trade links. The two sides agreed to concrete steps to facilitate business-to-business cooperation:

Business Outreach: Pakistan will start by providing Egypt with a list of 250 key business houses to help improve commercial engagement. This list will be expanded to 500 after three months.

Visa Facilitation: Egypt promised to fast-track visas for the Pakistani business community on this list to encourage travel and investment.

New Forums: To institutionalize the cooperation in the private sector, a Pakistan-Egypt Business Council will be formed. A high-level Pakistan-Egypt Business Forum, co-chaired by the two Foreign Ministers, will meet for the first time during the second quarter of 2026 in Cairo.

Besides the economic matters, the ministers discussed major regional and global issues, such as conflicts in Gaza and Sudan, and Iran’s nuclear program.

Counter-Terrorism: Minister Abdelatty offered Egypt’s experience in combating terrorism and violent extremism, affirming, “We stand in full solidarity with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism.”

Education: In a major goodwill gesture, Egypt has announced the doubling of scholarships this year for Pakistani students wishing to attend the prestigious Al Azhar University.

The renewed commitment by both nations signals a decisive move to place the Pakistan-Egypt relationship on a robust and mutually beneficial trajectory after years of stagnation.
