Former PM Imran Khan has unleashed a blistering attack from behind bars, accusing Army Chief Asim Munir of being a “mentally unstable dictator” and an oppressor of unprecedented cruelty. He says the general is subjecting him and his wife to torture and that the entire country is suffering under his rule.

What Imran Khan Is Accusing Asim Munir Of?

Imran Khan claims that Asim Munir has assumed unchecked power and is running Pakistan through what he calls “Asim law”. He posted on his official account:

“Asim Munir is the most oppressive dictator in Pakistan’s history and a mentally unstable man. The extent of tyranny under his rule is unprecedented…. Munir, in his lust for power, is capable of doing anything.”

Imran Khan also said:

“Asim Munir is inflicting every form of cruelty upon me and my wife. No political leader’s family has ever been subjected to such treatment.”  He pointed to violent episodes on May 9, November 26 and Muridke as proof of the “blind use of power” by security forces.

Khan’s Personal Allegations: Torture, Isolation, No Bowing Down

Imran Khan said he and his wife, Bushra Bibi, are facing solitary confinement, mental torture and intimidation designed to force submission. “We prefer death over slavery,” he declared.

He added:

“The mental torture being inflicted on me and (my wife) Bushra Begum in prison is being carried out by Asim Munir, and the sole purpose is to make us break down and submit.” Khan rejected any negotiations with the current government or military, calling them a “puppet government” and saying: “There is no point in negotiating with a puppet government whose prime minister operates under a policy of ‘I will let you know after asking.’”

Military Vs Democracy

This is not just a personal feud. Imran Khan’s allegations reflect a deeper power struggle in Pakistan: the dominance of the military establishment over civilian governance, and the shrinking space for opposition voices. He says the institutions — judiciary, media, police — have collapsed under Munir’s control.

His claim that Pakistan is being turned into a “hard state” or ruled by “Asim Law” signals a major warning about the future of democracy in the country.

Prisoner’s Message Reverberates Beyond Bars

What makes this story powerful is that it comes from a man behind bars. Khan’s critique carries weight because he once led the country, and his incarceration adds a layer of urgency to his warnings. His words highlight how even senior political figures can become victims of the system they once served.

His message resonates not only within Pakistan but internationally, as human rights observers note the pattern of political imprisonment and military intervention in civilian affairs. Khan’s fight thus transforms into a symbolic challenge: can Pakistan restore civilian sovereignty when its most visible opposition leader is silenced and imprisoned?
