Amid intense public speculation and family demands for proof he was alive, jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was met by his sister at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail on Tuesday. The meeting, confirmed by authorities, temporarily quelled swirling rumours about his health and condition, though it sparked fresh allegations of psychological pressure.

Why Was This Meeting So Critical?

The visit gained national significance due to a week of growing uncertainty. Khan's family, including his son and sisters, had publicly stated they had no contact with him for weeks and demanded evidence of his well-being. Rumours had grown, and some supporters feared the worst. The meeting therefore acted as an important “proof of life” moment, directly easing worries that had sparked protests and heated social media debate.

Fact Check: What Was Revealed in the Meeting?

After the meeting, Khan's sister, Uzma Khanum, spoke to the media. She confirmed the former PM's physical health was "perfectly fine." However, she relayed a serious allegation from her brother, stating he claimed to be subjected to "mental torture" and held Army Chief General Asim Munir responsible for it. She deferred giving a fuller account until consulting with her other sisters, leaving the details of this alleged treatment unclear.

What Led to the Rising Tension?

Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party claimed that for several weeks, all family members and senior leaders were completely barred from visiting him, despite court orders permitting access. His son detailed that Khan had been in solitary confinement for six weeks with "zero transparency." This information blackout, lasting since late October according to some officials, created a vacuum filled with worry and speculation among his vast support base.

How Did Authorities Manage the Situation?

To contain the fallout, the government took quick action. It allowed the single family meeting but paired it with firm steps to stop big protests. The full Rawalpindi police force was placed around Adiala Jail, and Section 144 restrictions were enforced in the two cities. This approach tried to calm the immediate issue while limiting broader mobilization by Khan’s party.
