Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir has once again stirred controversy with his exaggerated claims. In a diaspora event held in Belgium, Asim Munir stated that India was ‘forced to beg for a ceasefire’ during the India-Pak conflict.
The ceasefire was agreed through DGMO-level talks with no intervention from America. On May 10, US State Secretary Marco Rubio made a call to Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and informed him that Pakistan is seeking a ceasefire. Jaishanakr responded that the proposal must come from Pakistan’s DGMO through an established channel. By that time, India had already struck the Nur Khan airbase. So, Munir’s remark stands in contrast to the facts.

What did Munir Say in Belgium?
Asim Munir attended a private event organized by the Overseas Pakistani Foundation at Groot-Bijgarden Castle near Brussels on August 11. He made the remark standing in front of at least 500 community members. During his 40-minute speech, Munir claimed that Pakistan shot down advanced Indian aircraft and earned global respect by giving a befitting response to India. He also accused India of promoting trans-border terror in Pakistan, Canada, and the US. New Delhi has repeatedly called out the charges as baseless.
Munir claimed that ‘the international community respects only power’. He added that India had no choice but to ask for a ceasefire, forcing Trump to step in.

Munir’s Repeated Bizarre Statements
Prior to this statement, Munir threatened India with nuclear power during his visit to the US. “We are a nuclear nation. If we think we are going down, we’ll take half the world down with us,” he told the gathering in Florida.
The MEA responded, “The international community can draw its own conclusions on the irresponsibility inherent in such remarks, which also reinforce well-held doubts about the integrity of nuclear command and control in a state where the military is hand-in-glove with terrorist groups.”
