Pakistan National Assembly members seem not on one platform amid operation against terrorist outfits

The Pakistan National Assembly appears to be divided on the operation against terrorists. The deadly terrorist attack at the Peshawar mosque on Tuesday killed at least 100 people.

The National Assembly experienced some fiery speeches as some members demanded the complete elimination of terrorism. But most of the lawmakers were not in favour of launching attack on terrorists’ hideouts to eradicate terrorist activities. They raised questions on the effect of prior operations.

In fact, Pakistan launched an attack on the militant group named Zarb-e-Azb in Pakistan and along the Afghanistan border near Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in 2014.

Religious Affairs Minister Moulvi Abdul Shakoor of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) is not in favour of launching a military operation against terrorists. He said it may disturb the tribal areas.

However, the lawmaker lashes out at the previous government of Pakistan, led by Imran Khan, for its appeasement policy toward the militant groups.

An independent member of assembly from Waziristan, Mohsin Dawar, said that the protest by the police personnel near the Peshawar Press Club is heart-breaking.

If policemen staged demonstrations, then it is difficult for anyone to assess the severity of the situation. He said that the police don’t have the trust on the state.

The banned group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has created havoc on Pakistani soil in recent time after the failure of the peace deal between the TTP and the Pakistani government.

However, the TTP came into force in 2007 by numerous armed groups who were against Pakistan for its cooperation policy with the US. Meanwhile, the TTP came forward in the support of Afghan Taliban’s fight against the US and the NATO.
