Odisha Delegation Kickstarts Singapore Visit to Boost Global Investments

Odisha Delegation Kickstarts Singapore Visit to Boost Global Investments

The first day of Odisha’s high-level delegation visit to Singapore, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Industry Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, began with a detailed briefing by Dr. Shilpak Ambule, Indian High Commissioner to Singapore. The briefing emphasized the growing trade relations between India and Singapore, with a special focus on Odisha’s pivotal role in sectors like chemicals, renewable energy, and skilling.

Promoting Odisha’s Electronics and IT Ecosystem

The delegation held a meeting with Dr. Edward Morton, Founder of CT Metrix, discussing opportunities in IT, semiconductors, and smart city solutions. The Chief Minister assured Morton of proactive measures to establish a robust electronics ecosystem in Odisha and invited him to explore business opportunities in the state.

Expanding Steel and Ferro-Chrome Sectors

Chief Minister Majhi also met Vivek Agarwal, Director of Visa Group Limited, urging the company to expand its operations in Odisha’s steel and ferro-chrome sectors. The discussions focused on increasing value-added products and creating more employment opportunities in the state.

Investments in Bio-Fertilizers

In a meeting with Rabin Jhunjhunwala, Chairman of Orind Singapore Pte Ltd, the focus shifted to bio-fertilizers. CM Majhi encouraged Jhunjhunwala to set up a facility in Odisha, promising full government support.

Green Energy Collaboration

The delegation visited Sembcorp Industries Ltd. to explore renewable energy advancements. Odisha approved Sembcorp’s Green Ammonia project, aligning with the state’s focus on green investments. This partnership aims to bolster sustainable infrastructure and position Odisha as a key destination for renewable energy investments.

Strengthening Economic Ties

CM Majhi highlighted the significance of this visit:
“This is my first foreign visit as Chief Minister, and Singapore’s industrial ecosystem offers invaluable insights. We are committed to providing full facilitation for investors, especially in handloom, seafood, and skilled workforce sectors.”

Industry Minister Swain added:
“Odisha’s strategic location on India’s eastern seaboard positions it as a prime hub for green fuels and renewable energy. Today’s engagements have set a strong foundation for future growth.”

This visit is a crucial part of Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, showcasing Odisha’s potential to global investors. Over the next three days, the delegation will visit key industrial hubs, aiming to strengthen Odisha’s industrial growth and sustainable development.
