New Speed Sleeper Trains To Be Launched, Cuts Beijing-Hong Kong Travel Time In Half

To enhance its connections with mainland China, a new high-speed sleeper train service will be introduced to reduce travel time between Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shanghai.

Beginning on June 15, this train will decrease travel time between Hong Kong and Beijing to 12.5 hours, from more than a full day announced MTR Corp. This sleeper train will run on Fridays to Mondays.

As per hong Kong’s mass railway operator, the trips to shanghai will now be reduced to 11 hours from 19.5 hours.

Now, a trip to Beijing will now cost travelers HK$937 ($120), while Shanghai will cost HK$682 ($87).

Which contrasts with approximately $100 for a 3.5-hour flight from Hong Kong to Beijing in mid-June and as low as $78 for the less than 3-hour plane journey to Shanghai.

In addition to the extended travel duration, the overnight train services will operate only once a day, whereas there are at least a dozen flights available over the weekend between Hong Kong and the two mainland cities.

Meanwhile, the Long-haul daytime train services, lasting approximately eight hours, will still be in operation along the route, which remains popular with both tourists and business travelers.

As further revealed by MTR, with sleeper train’s introduction, passengers can now ‘maximize their travel time and conveniently plan their business or leisure itineraries.’

The Tickets for this train service will start on June 5th itself.
