The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has suspended issuing new tourist and work visas to citizens of nine countries in Africa and Asia. This decision came in 2026 after an internal immigration notice was shared, but the UAE government has not officially confirmed it. Officials say the ban is only temporary. But so far, there is no date on when it will end.
Which Countries Are Affected by the Visa Ban?
People from these nine countries cannot apply for new visas:
- Afghanistan
- Libya
- Yemen
- Somalia
- Lebanon
- Bangladesh
- Cameroon
- Sudan
- Uganda
The ban applies to both tourist visas and work permits. But those who already have a valid UAE visa are safe. They can continue to live, work, and stay in the UAE.

Why Did the UAE Put This Ban?

It’s not only workers who are affected, but businesses in the UAE are also in trouble. Many businesses use inexpensive labour from illegal countries. They might now have fewer options and be required to pay higher salaries.
What Happens When the Ban Ends?
Citizens of these nine nations are eligible to reapply once the ban is lifted. They can use immigration offices, embassies, or the UAE’s online visa system. They will require:
- A valid passport (at least 6 months left)
- A negative COVID-19 PCR test
- A vaccination certificate
- Proof they meet health rules
