A tragic bus accident near Medina early Monday killed 42 Indian Umrah pilgrims. The bus, carrying around 46 passengers from Mecca to Medina, collided with a diesel tanker at approximately 1:30 am IST, triggering a massive explosion that engulfed the vehicle.

Who Is the Lone Survivor of the Accident?

The sole survivor of the horrific crash is Mohd Abdul Shoiab, 24, a resident of Hyderabad. He was reportedly seated near the driver when the bus collided with the tanker. Shoiab was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, though his condition remains unknown.

This was a horrifing accident that had no chance to get out of the bus. Almost the same thing happened a couple of months ago when an Air India plane crashed and only a single person survived.

Shoiab’s survival has become the central human focus amid the tragedy, highlighting the devastating impact of the accident on dozens of families.

Indian Authorities Respond

The Indian mission in Jeddah has established a control room to provide assistance to families and coordinate emergency relief. The embassy in Riyadh is supporting identification and repatriation efforts.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, currently in Russia, expressed “deep shock” over the accident. He said,

"Our embassy in Riyadh and consulate in Jeddah are giving the fullest support to Indian nationals and families affected by this accident. Sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Pray for the speedy recovery of those injured."

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy also expressed grief and directed top officials to obtain full details. He instructed officials to contact the Ministry of External Affairs and the Saudi Embassy to ensure immediate support.

"A dedicated control room has also been set up at the state secretariat to support families of the victims, including those from Hyderabad," Reddy’s office said.

Accident Details

Authorities believe 46 people were on board the bus at the time of the crash. Emergency services responded quickly, but the impact and subsequent explosion resulted in mass casualties.

The accident has left India’s pilgrimage community in shock, with many families awaiting information about their loved ones.

Indian officials are coordinating with Saudi authorities to ensure timely hospital care, identification, and repatriation of victims. Telangana’s control room will provide updates and assistance to families in Hyderabad.
