A 32-year-old man from Michigan, Nathan Mahoney, was apprehended for stabbing the president of his workplace, Anderson Express, during a morning staff meeting. Fox 17 reported that Mahoney faces charges of assault with intent to murder and fleeing from authorities.
Mahoney entered a conference room brandishing a “red-handled” knife and stabbed the company president in his side. He fled the scene but was captured in less than an hour. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation by the authorities.
Company President Undergoes Surgery, Expected to Recover Completely
The company president is currently undergoing surgery following the attack. Mary Ann Sabo, a spokesperson for Anderson Express, stated that the company is “still in shock” over the events that transpired yesterday at their plant: “Our first thoughts are for our president, who apparently has a good prognosis for a full and speedy recovery. ” We also wish to support our employees as they work to process this senseless attack. She further recognized the local law enforcement for their prompt actions and mentioned that there is ongoing collaboration with the investigation.
Mahoney, who was hired last month for an accounting role, was characterized by coworkers as having a “quiet demeanor. ” Matt Roberts, a trial attorney representing the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office, stated, “Regardless of any grievances you may have against someone, you cannot resort to violence against that individual under any circumstances. ”
If found guilty, Mahoney may face life imprisonment. A probable cause conference is set for the day after Christmas.
