Kuwait Fire: 5 Indian Lives Lost Among 41 Victims In Mangaf Building Blaze

A dreadful incident unfolded in Kuwait’s Mangaf district early Wednesday morning as a fire erupted in a building, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 41 lives, with reports suggesting that among the victims are several Indian nationals. The Kuwait fire is believed to have originated in a kitchen on one of the lower floors before rapidly spreading throughout the structure, leaving many occupants trapped inside.

Reports indicate that the building, which housed approximately 195 laborers, including workers from Kerala and Tamil Nadu, belongs to the NBTC group, owned by Malayali businessman KG Abraham. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait swiftly responded to the crisis by establishing an emergency helpline number (965-65505246) for updates and assistance. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed shock over the incident, confirming that the Indian ambassador has been dispatched to the camp to assess the situation.

Expressing condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured, Jaishankar assured that the Indian Embassy would provide full assistance. Kuwaiti authorities, as per the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), have reported that the fire has been brought under control, with investigations underway to ascertain the cause of the tragic incident.

A senior police commander, speaking to state TV, emphasized the dangers of overcrowded living conditions, particularly for workers, hinting at the possibility that such overcrowding may have exacerbated the casualties. The specifics regarding the type of employment or origin of the workers affected by the fire remain undisclosed.

The incident underscores the importance of adhering to safety protocols and ensuring adequate living conditions for workers, urging authorities to remain vigilant in enforcing regulations to prevent similar tragedies in the future. As investigations continue, the thoughts and prayers of many are with the families affected by this devastating event.
