Jackie Bezos, a philanthropist and one of the first investors in Amazon, was the mother of Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon. She died on August 14, 2025, in her home in Miami, aged 78, after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia that began when she was diagnosed with it in 2020.

Early Life and Motherhood
Jackie Bezos born on 29 December 1946 in Washington D.C. Jackie was raised, however, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Having at 17 years welcomed her first child, Jeff Bezos, determined to provide for him and working in a bank and attending night school.

She met Miguel Bezos, whom she married in 1968; he adopted Jeff and he went on to have two more children, Christina and Mark.
Early-stage Backing to Amazon
In 1995, Jackie and Miguel put a bold step in pouring in just over $245,000 into Jeff’s newly started online bookstore, which they called Amazon.
The investment would later swell itself into a stake valued in the tens of billions as Amazon was set to become the modern world’s colossus with a heft of $2.5 trillion. Jackie Bezos had enough confidence in her son’s vision to provide an opening for one of the world’s most transforming companies in history.
Champion of Education and Philanthropy
Much of Jackies life outside business and entrepreneurial pursuits was devoted to philanthropy. She co-founded the Bezos Family Foundation, which put a lot of money into education initiatives.
