PM Modi Rides Bullet Train with Japanese PM, Meet Indian Train Trainees

During his Japan visit, PM Modi travelled by bullet train with Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba, interacted with Indian train drivers training at JR East, and met governors of 16 prefectures to strengthen partnerships in trade, startups, and technology.

On the second day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Japan, he travelled on a bullet train to Sendai city with the Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. 

PM Ishiba shared pictures from the memorable journey on his X, and wrote, “With Prime Minister Modi to Sendai. Continuing from last night, I will be with you in the car.”

PM Modi also met with Indian Train drivers who are currently undergoing training at the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) on Saturday. The drivers warmly greeted the prime minister.

Modi also held discussions with the governors from sixteen Japanese prefectures earlier on Saturday. The meeting focused on working towards maintaining closer cooperation between Indian states and Japanese prefectures. 

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote on X, “PM Modi highlighted the potential of states-prefectures collaboration and in this regard urged action under the State-Prefecture Partnership Initiative launched during the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit for shared progress.”

Modi also spoke about his meeting with the prefectures, saying that the cooperation with them is an integral factor to India-Japan relations. “This is also why a separate initiative on it was launched during the 15th Annual India-Japan Summit yesterday,” he said.
