Islamabad: Imran’s aide Asad Umar challenges his arrest

Asad Umar, secretary general of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has challenged his arrest in the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Asad Umar, a close aide to Imran Khan, challenged the arrest under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). Asad Umar filed a complaint against his MPO arrest with the Islamabad High Court through Babar Awan and Amna Ali. The plea’s respondents include the Secretary of the Interior, the Inspector General of Police, and others.

According to ARY News, the former federal minister claimed in his plea that arrests on high court property are prohibited by Supreme Court ruling.

“My fundamental human rights were violated during my arrest from the IHC grounds,” Umar added in his plea.

On May 10, Asad Umar was apprehended outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC). He was detained as he prepared to file a petition to meet with PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
Rangers arrested Imran Khan outside Islamabad High Court on Tuesday this week on the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) warrant in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had launched an investigation into Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and others for the alleged acquisition of hundreds of canals of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, resulting in a 190 million pound loss to the national exchequer.
