Suspense is deepening over the health and condition of jailed former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan, as his son Kasim has raised alarming concerns that authorities may be hiding “something irreversible”.
Speaking to Reuters, Kasim expressed fear and frustration, saying that not knowing whether his father is “safe, injured or even alive” amounts to “psychological torture.”
He revealed that there has been absolutely no independent communication with Imran Khan for months.
“Today we have no verifiable information at all about his condition. Our greatest fear is that something irreversible is being hidden from us,” he said.
Kasim said his family has repeatedly asked authorities to allow Imran’s personal physician to examine him, but the request has been denied for more than a year.
This refusal, he pointed out, has only intensified the fears surrounding the PTI chief's health and the secrecy around his confinement.
Kasim alleged that Imran Khan is being kept in isolation deliberately because the government fears his massive public support.
“They are scared of him. He is Pakistan’s most popular leader, and they know they cannot defeat him democratically,” he said.
He added that the last time he and his brother met their father was in November 2022, shortly after Imran survived an assassination attempt.
“That image has stayed with me ever since. Seeing our father in that state is something you don’t forget,” Kasim said.
He added, “We were told he would recover with time. Now, after weeks of total silence and no proof of life, that memory carries a different weight.”
Imran’s ex-wife, Jemima Goldsmith, also said that the family is not permitted even basic phone communication with him.
This complete blackout has only strengthened concerns within PTI and among supporters.
While Adiala Jail officials maintain that Imran Khan is in “good health”, his party leaders and family believe that the lack of access suggests something is seriously wrong.
Khan, 73, has been kept at Adiala Jail since 2023 in connection with several cases after his arrest in August that year.
Reports say that neither his sisters, lawyers, party leaders, nor doctors have been allowed to see him — effectively placing him in total solitary confinement.
PTI earlier described the situation as “highly alarming”, and several party members have been holding large-scale protests demanding his release.
