Iranian Player Threatened To Not Return After Competing Without Hijab

Sara Khadem, an Iranian chess player shifted to Spain after receiving a warning from her country to not return. Not wearing a hijab while competing in an international tournament in Kazakhstan is the reason why she was told not to return.

Sara Khadem participated in last week’s FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships in Almaty without the hijab. According to the International Chess Federation website, she is ranked 804 in the world.

The sources revealed that Sara Khadem got multiple calls threatening to not return to Iran after the tournament. Some even said they would “solve her problem” if she returned. The player’s relatives and parents who are based in Iran also received threats.

Currently, Sara is in pain and she has been provided with four bodyguards to ensure her safety.
