JAMMU, Sept 10: Security has been intensified across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the BRICS Summit in Delhi, with security forces placed on high alert amid concerns over possible attempts by Pakistan and its proxies to disrupt peace and security in the region.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, CRPF and other security agencies have stepped up frisking, checking and search operations across various parts of the Union Territory. Extensive searches are being conducted, particularly in far-flung and rural areas, to prevent any possible movement or infiltration of terrorists and to detect potential threats at an early stage.
Security forces have been specifically directed to maintain heightened alertness in rural areas, including villages and other vulnerable locations. Security personnel have been asked to maintain a strong presence and conduct intensified checking and surveillance to ensure that no suspicious movement or activity goes undetected.
Along the Line of Control and the International Border, the Indian Army and BSF have enhanced vigilance and are maintaining a high level of operational preparedness. Troops deployed in forward areas are keeping a close watch on vulnerable stretches and possible routes that could be exploited by terrorists.
In the hinterland, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with CRPF and other paramilitary forces, have also been placed on alert. Joint frisking, area domination and search operations are being carried out at several locations as part of preventive security measures.
Security agencies are maintaining close coordination and sharing intelligence inputs to identify and neutralise any potential threat at the earliest. The focus is on preventing terrorist movement, strengthening surveillance and ensuring that Pakistan-sponsored attempts to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir are foiled.
With the BRICS Summit being held in the national capital, security agencies across Jammu and Kashmir are maintaining round-the-clock vigilance, with particular emphasis on border areas, rural villages and the hinterland to ensure that the security situation remains under control.
