Gotabaya Rajapaksa reapplied for US citizenship

Former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who left Sri Lanka in December 2022 has reportedly reapplied for his United States (US) citizenship.

Earlier in December 2022 Rajapaksa left Sri Lanka along with his family and is currently in Dubai on holiday.

Meanwhile, there were many reports that Gotabaya Rajapaksa left for the US via Dubai, but Rajapaksa had no visa to travel to the United States.

According to the report, to restore the US citizenship of Rajapaksa, the former President’s lawyers have appealed to the US State Department.

Moreover, Rajapaksa the request for the restoration of his US Citizenship is yet to be considered by the US authorities.

However, after fleeing from Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa appealed for the restoration of his US Citizenship after he failed to seek asylum in any country.

Furthermore, the US Embassy has confirmed that the former President’s efforts for US citizenship are yet to be successful.

During the anti-government protests in 2022 Rajapaksa flee away from Srilanka.
